Fort Morgan
Fort Morgan Alabama is teeming with history. A walk through all the old forts and bunkers takes you back into the Civil War era. Fort Morgan is to the west of Gulf Shores and a great place to drive to, catch the ferry to Dauphin Island (call (251) 861-3000 to get the schedule before making plans) and have an enjoyable scenic ride.
On August 5th, 1864, the Union fleet, led by Admiral David Farragut, sailed between the peninsulas in the greatest naval battle of the Civil War. Farragut issued his famous order: "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead."
